CPN-Maoist affiliated workers have shut down entire hotels across Nagarkot on Wednesday.
The workers of one of the biggest hotels in Nagarkot Club Himalaya
resorted to shutdown demanding the increment in their monthly salary.
The shut down was consequently supported by the workers of other hotels in Nagarkot.
All Nepal Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union have launched the protest since Monday demanding the minimum salary of the hotel workers to be Rs 4,600.
Talks were held between Nagarkot Myaldung Tourism Development Committee and hotel entrepreneurs to settle the issue.
However, the entrepreneurs were quite stubborn about their stance for not fulfilling the worker’s demands.
The irate workers then launched demonstrations in the region after entrepreneurs denied to address their demands.
The hotel entrepreneurs have threatened to shut down the hotels if the workers do not call off their strike.
Meanwhile, the protesting workers have said that they will announce their protest programmes amidst a press conference later today.
Tourists in Nagarkot have been left in lurch after almost 60 hotels in the region have been shut down following protest by the hotel workers.
Located 32 kilometres east of the capital in Bhaktapur district, Nagarkot is a famous tourist spot known for its views of sunrise and sunset.
