The National Convention of the CPN-Maoist cadres is underway on Wednesday at the Nepal Electricity Authority Training Centre in Bhaktapur.
Maoists Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is presenting the proposal of general people’s democratic national republic at the convention today.

Meanwhile, secretarial meeting is also underway to finalise the proposal.

The Maoists finalised the new working strategies of the party by integrating Chairman Dahal’s ‘pragmatic’ proposal in favour of adopting federal democratic republic as the party’s strategy now, and senior leader Baidya’s ‘hard-line’ document making preparations for establishing a people’s republic through revolt.

The working strategy was finalised by the Central Committee (CC) meeting held yesterday.

The National Convention is due to conclude today following the decision on the reports.

Meanwhile, chairman Dahal and other senior leaders are scheduled to address the programme today.

In the past one week, the party has seen an ideological rift between Chairman Dahal and Baidya after they presented parallel political documents to its CC, which started on Nov. 17.

Both the documents were brought to discussions at the 13 state committees in its national cadre meet that started from Nov 21. Some 1,200 state committee members held discussions for the last few days to suggest ways for the party to move forward, even though this body does not have voting right.

A total of 40 team members from 13 state committees presented their views on the two ‘parallel’ political reports to the larger plenum on Monday.
